Определите, какие из приведённых утверждений соответствуют содержанию текста (True), какие не соответствуют (False) и о чём в тексте не сказано, то есть на основании текста нельзя дать ни положительного, ни отрицательного ответа (Not stated).
Nickolay Miklukho-Maklay
Nickolay Miklukho-Maklay visited a lot of islands and lands near Australia and New Zealand and described them in his diaries. Later some biological stations were opened in Asia to study nature and people’s life in those regions.
In 1882 he left Australia and returned to St Petersburg. He offered to construct a sea station and a Russian settlement in New Guinea but his offer was declined by tsar Alexander III.
Miklukho-Maklay published his books and won recognition as a scientist. In 1883 Nickolay went to Australia and in 1884 he married an Australian woman Margaret-Emma Robertson. They had two sons. In 1886 he returned to Russia with his family. He was in poor health at that time and it was his last trip. On the 2nd of April 1888 the great Russian scientist and explorer died.
Miklukho-Maklay’s family came back to Sydney and until 1917 they received a Russian pension given by Alexander III and then by Nicholas II personally. In 2001 the Marine Biological Station was opened in Sydney as a museum in the memory of Nickolay Miklukho-Maklay. In Russia there are many streets in different cities named after Miklukho-Maklay. His name was given to the Institute of Ethnology at the Russian Academy of Science. In New Guinea, not far from the place where the great explorer lived in the 1870s, a street was named after Miklukho-Maklay. In 1996 UNESCO named him the Man of the World. His birthday is now a professional holiday of all the ethnologists.
